I have posted a couple of times about the Green book I was reading called Green Chic - Saving the Earth in Style, which I won in a giveaway on one of my favorite blogs, Coveiter. One of the stipulations to this giveaway was that I read the book and pass it on through a giveaway on my blog. I have never done a giveaway on my blog, so this is colossal. I have copied the instructions from Coveiter on entering this giveaway since they did such a nice job enticing me to participate. This book is fantastic and has lots of great ideas of going Green in steps. It can be overwhelming, but remember that every little bit helps.
How to Enter: Leave a comment on this post with one small step you've taken towards being green, your favorite green tip, or anything else related to keeping our environment healthy. I'll randomly pick one winner at noon Friday, August 8 (EST) and mail the book off to you.
Only one catch! You need to have a blog. Why? To keep the green vibes flowing. Once you've read the book, post a giveaway of your own on your blog. Hopefully the next recipient will do the same. Thus starting a recycled book tour that will help to educate others on how to get green chic! I can feel our planet's happy vibes now!

Sounds fun!! Living in Berkeley it feels like we're in the center of green chic! I've gone green by walking to the grocery store two-three times a week instead of driving once a week. I don't take plastic or paper bags, just stuff the food in my backpack or the bottom of my child-filled stroller to start our mile plus trek home with bananas in tow. My minuscule attempt to be earth-friendly!
fun! I need to learn more about being green... but what I can say that I am doing is walking as much as possible (to school, playground, etc)... which will be much easier when this killer heat gives us a bit of a break. And, of course, I'm always turning things (fans, lights, tv, etc) off when leaving the room. Oh and the most important... trying to learn about being more green and teach my kids to live that way too. :)
I need to win this book! Living in suburbia, it is super easy to be lazy and not be green, especially while driving my massive truck around town. I drive the truck now because I go less miles being a homemaker, thus using less gas as a household. That is a pathetic tip, so here is my real one. My green tip is to switch to CFL lightbulbs. We are in the process of switching over, as a bulb burns out, we replace it with a CFL bulb, and they last longer and use much less electricity. Our electric bill has been lowered significantly, and we haven't even gotten the whole place yet. Also, using the 2 light rule (Wendy's miserly living tip) also helps. Only have 2 light switches on in the house at any one time. This is a hard one, depending on the size of your household, but it makes a difference too.
Living green is something I think a lot about, but I feel like your book would help me see more things that I need to do. Currently I have used cloth diapers with both of my children, I use a bike with a trailer to do a lot of our transportation needs, I have been using reusable grocery bags for 7 years and I have switched over my dishwasher detergent so that it is phosphate free.
(I am a family friend of the Kelly's and I think you might know my mom Mary Anne Ciccotelli she works at the Manhattan Temple on Friday evenings)
I've been trying to live more "green" for awhile... Small steps I've taken are using "Green" cleaning products (or just baking soda/vinegar) and I stopped using air freshener sprays (or the like) which just put more junk into the air. Of course we keep lights off as much as possible and I'm teaching the kids to be conscious of their actions and how they affect the planet. There is much more I could do, but at least I'm trying!
I noticed when you won on Coveiter and am so happy that you have to pass it along via giveaway!
As you know, I LOVE my baggu bags and have even persuaded Dan to carry one around with him in the pursuit of not brining plastic bags into our home.
My favorite green tip? Probably not buying bottled water (save for food storage) and using Siggs.
I know I am late on this, but just wanted to say: good idea.
I re-use all the containers I get (yogurt or whatever) as tupperware and got Sigg waterbottles to replace my plastic ones.
