It's no secret that I am not a big fan of shopping. I usually last a maximum of 2 hours, but my average is about 45 minutes. I especially do not like big department stores like Macy's because they are too overwhelming, too much stuff to look at. I try to avoid places like that at all costs. Well, I got a $100 gift certificate to Bloomingdale's for Christmas from one of the caterers we work with, so I figured it was time to try to use it. I have never been to Bloomingdale's, but I have seen people walking around with their Medium and Little Brown Bags that are characteristic of this shopping mecca. I have had friends rave about it, and I knew Rachel from Friends worked there. Well, it was disappointing.Despite the advantage of the President's Day 40% off sale, I still couldn't find anything in the store that I could afford. I spent a good 45 minutes or so wandering around racks of dresses and shoes only to find everything I liked was over $300. Ridiculous. Who shops at this place? After I left Bloomingdale's and headed across the street to the more reasonable and manageable Banana Republic I passed a group of teenage girls carrying the Bloomingdale's Brown bags. I thought to myself, "What on earth could any of you have afforded to buy at that place?" Honestly? Maybe I just don't know how to navigate the store and the sales. Or maybe I just need to resign myself to buying a tube of mascara or a scarf.
I went to several stores after that and didn't buy anything. It's so frustrating to go shopping when you have the money to spend and the desire to spend it only to find nothing worth buying. I almost bought a pair of animal print heels from Ann Taylor that were on sale and my size, but after admiring them on my foot and wandering around the store in them, I decided they weren't practical or comfortable enough to buy. I ended up buying replacement glasses from Pottery Barn (because we have broken about 3 of ours) and fruits and vegetables from the store. Cameron says, "How practical of you."
He has offered to take the gift card and tackle Bloomingdale's on my behalf. I think that is a splendid idea.

I also completely hate big department stores. I have never really been inside bloomingdales or macy's since I was a little girl for that reason. Just thinking about going in there gives me anxiety because there are too many choices. Hope Cameron has better luck!

Fred likes to drag us all to the outlets upstate whenever he has a day/week off from school.
I have an even harder time spending gift certificates because I am worried that if I get something now, I will most certainly find something better later. So I wait and carry the gift certificate around and around. I can't even imagine using a gift certificate at a place the size of Bloomingdale's!

Who ever said that cute shoes had to be practical or comfortable?? Now Cameron in Bloomingdale's is something that I would like to see:)
Nikki, I kid you not: I found a pair of designer jeans at Bloomingdales on clearance for 28 bucks on Monday. Regular price was $187, mind you. If I would have seen you there, I would have dragged you to the maternity department and scoured the clearance rack with you.
