The Visitor

We just watched this movie the other night, and I liked it a lot... except it made me kind of angry. I guess they succeeded in getting the right reaction out of me. If you haven't seen it, I think you should, so I won't go ruining the plot. However, I will tell you it is about immigration, deportation, friendship, acceptance, etc...

When it was over, I turned to Cameron and said, "Why do we deport good people who actually work and make money and don't rely on the government to take care of them? I think those people should stay and we should ship the lazy government moochers to places like Iran, Syria or Pakistan where their rights are severely diminished and there is no one there willing to take care of them or cater to their laziness."

Do you think I'd get elected? I didn't think so. Watch this movie. Perhaps you would agree with me.

i would vote for you. my husband is running for state legislator in utah and so we have been visiting with all kinds of people as he campaigns.

one thing that has *shocked* me is how angry people in utah are about the fact that immigration laws are not more strictly enforced. i think it is weird that immigration is one of THE issues in a non-border state.

one individual we spoke with said that his problem with undocumented immigrants is that they haven't "paid the price." are you kidding me!?! i almost lost it on the dude.

these people are paying through the nose to get here, working their tails off to give their families a better life, and then when their employers refuse to pay them, they have no legal recourse. they are totally vulnerable but they choose to be here anyway.

i get that we should follow the law....but when the law is bad (and doesn't adequately address our current labour needs) i sympathize with the people who break it.

you guys should watch "under the same moon" as well. also about undocumented immigration.

love you nikki! (sorry for the novel-esque comment)
