And Suddenly I Was A Mom

Don't look now, I thought, as I rolled out dough on my small square of counter space, but you look like your mom. Having the little man, getting spit up on, waking up at all hours of the night, making big facial expressions to get one back and finding my days revolve around nap schedules (or attempting them anyway) has not made me feel like a mom. But on Friday as I made my mom's Thanksgiving crescent rolls with my son strapped to the front of me in the Bjorn, I suddenly realized I had arrived.
Growing up my job in crescent roll production was limited to either rolling out the dough or cutting the slices and consumption. My mom pretty much did everything else. They have always been the one thing (besides dipping chocolates) that I was never sure I could make, so I just avoided them and looked forward to Thanksgivings at home. But I have been feeling ambitious lately, so I called mom for the recipe and decided to make them.

Not bad for a first attempt.Check out the little man's reaction..."Dag, Ma! Those rolls look OFF THE HIZ-OOK! How much longer til I can do solids?"

We are going to have to compare roll recipes! Those look exactly like my friend Haley's mom's recipe that I just learned how to do. She made them for a couple enrichment activities, and I ate an embarrassingly large quantity at both! At least now I have the recipe and I can endulge in private. Nice work- those take a TON of time to do with all the rising.

I baked my first thanksgiving rolls tonight too. It was nerve racking but if I do say so myself they turned out quite tasty. Yours look delicious!! Look at us growing up!

the rolls look awesome but the little man's face is even better. is it just me, or is he getting cuter and cuter? which i thought was impossible the first time i saw how cute he was...

Yes. Now you are a mom. I was thinking the same thing as I ripped meat off of turkey bones after Thanksgiving dinner and used said bones to make stock for soup.
