Saving the world one diaper at a time...

So in my efforts to be eco-conscious and GREEN, I am always looking for new ways to save the planet. I was browsing through my friend Marci's favorite sites on her blog and came across Coveiter, a blog that has great ideas and products. (Thanks Marci!). I love these kinds of blogs. I perused for a bit and came across a post about gDiapers. In the past, I have discussed with friends the damage of disposable diapers, but cloth diapers are just out of the question. gDiapers puts it into perspective...

"One day over breakfast, Jason and Kim Graham-Nye came across an interesting fact. They found that conventional disposable diapers are the third largest contributors to landfills in the world and yet only five percent of the population uses them. It was a fact of stunning proportion met by another amazing fact. A single disposable diaper can take up to 500 years to biodegrade in the landfill."

This is a company that has come up with a happy alternative to cloth and disposable diapers. The outer piece is stylish, the snap in liner is washable and the inserts can be tossed in the toilet or thrown away, but the best part is that they are biodegradable and will decompose in 50-150 days.

Of course, a product like this is going to cost you more than a disposable diaper. A comparison...

A large box of disposable refills size small is $52 for 160 diapers, which equals about $.32 per diaper.

A large box of disposable refills size med/large is $52 for 128 diapers, which equals about $.40 per diaper.

If you were to buy a large case of a brand such as Pampers, depending on the size, you get anywhere from 128 to 228 diapers, which equals about $.19 to $.34 a diaper.

As you can see, it's a little bit more expensive to be GREEN with diapers, but maybe it's worth it.
