Halloween or National Hooker Day?

So I just have to make a quick post here about something. I remember the days of trick or treating when I was a kid when people dressed up as ghosts, witches, famous people, dogs, etc. Kids walked around neighborhoods for hours going up to houses and begging for candy. This was a time honored tradition, in which I took part for a couple of years. My brother and I would come home with pillowcases full of our loot. Well, I am not much of a Halloween fanatic. I don't dress up or do anything crazy. But I have noticed that there are a lot of women who feel that Halloween is synonomous with Hooker Day. I see so many women dressed up in costumes, which could be seemingly harmless like a nurse or a bee or a cute fairy, except it has to be coupled with lingerie or short shorts or some other revealing item not considered actual clothing fit for public. But all in the name of this holiday where we dress up as something else (which isn't what the original holiday was about anyway. Read this for a history lesson.), girls feel it is okay to traipse around in nothing but a set of fairy wings and underwear. We as a public have deemed this acceptable either willingly or unwillingly because of a convoluted amendment about freedom of expression. I see these girls, some who can't be more than teenagers walking around exposing all of Victoria's secrets all too eagerly, and I feel sad for them. They obviously don't have any respect for themselves. Someone didn't love them enough to teach them about respect and self esteem, so now they have none for themselves. Some might say that it is the male that has driven society to find this acceptable, which may be partially true, but women are free thinking humans with the right to choose. No one forced them to put on the stockings, bustier and stilettos with a pair of wings to call themselves a fairy. Anyway, I miss the days of real creative costumes that couldn't be mistaked as a parade of independent hookers. I applaud all those who have used their creative juices. Mallory, here's to you for being the Queen of Halloween and always having an awesome costume... without the lingerie.
