September Fun

Rather than do a separate post for all of these fun things, I thought I would just lump them together... First there was the Yankees game against the Mariners. It was a good game until the Yankees really started to make things miserable for the Mariners... The Yanks scored several runs by the 6th inning making it 4-0. Then we were in the 7th inning forever gaining runs when A Rod got up to bat. I turn to Sarah Jane and say, "What's all the hype over this A-Rod guy? Every time I go to one of these games, he sucks and strikes out." No more than 5 seconds after I finished, he knocked one out of the park. I eat my words. We left after the 7th inning when the score was 12-1. Eat your heart out Mikey.

Then last Saturday was the annual canoe trip for all the youth in the Manhattan Stake. It's sort of a seminary kickoff event, and since Cameron is in the Stake Young Men's presidency, I got to tag along.

These are our kids from Harlem... and some leaders. I am not sure if I am just getting old or if the NYC kids are especially out of control, but these kids were all over the place tipping each other over, rowing around in circles, screaming, etc. We only had one minor casualty, which the kid probably deserved. He got hit in the head with an oar while trying to tip a canoe full of girls. He was bleeding and we administered first aid with our soggy first aid kit and then President Yamada (our resident surgeon and doctor) stitched him up a bit in the parking lot. Awesome. All in all the day was a success and the Delaware Water Gap was peaceful and so fun. We all had a good time.

Ah serenity...

And then my awesome cousin Stephanie came up from DC to go to the US Open and visit the guy she is dating, who happens to be someone both Cameron and I know from way back when. So we all went to dinner Saturday night at this great little Thai place on 9th and 54th called Wondee Siam (Thanks Erica and Jason!). Adam had gotten some free tickets to a NY television pilot screening from a girl he knows who had something submitted and playing. We checked it out, laughed a little and went home. My kind of Saturday night.

Blurry but creative...

Does your life ever slow down. It seems like you are always doing something fun and exciting. I have too many crazy kids to venture out to far.

I suppose that's why we do it... no kids. It doesn't slow down. I keep thinking that I want it to, but whenever I have a free afternoon with nothing going on I hardly know what to do with myself!

Your life does sound super fun and adventurous. It is really fun seeing pictures of the youth in your ward--so much diversity...By any chance, do you know any of the girls who were in that video that the church put out recently about some Harlem Young Women who attended EFY in Provo?

I am not familiar with the video but there is a chance I probably know them. Do you know any of their names?

Nikki you are always doing fun stuff. I love to read about your many adventures. I guess I am always really busy doing stuff as well but it is with the little people, which I love. I think it's so great that you are taking the opportunity to live life at it's fullest. We are going to have to venture up there one of these days during our 3 years that we are over here. You make it sound so exciting. I am sure Doug would love to go to a baseball game even though, I have to warn you, he isn't a fan of the Yankees.
