Sick Days

I have never been very good about calling in sick. When I was younger, I would go to school when I was sick and it would take very strong convincing from my mom to make me stay home. I think it was mostly due to the fact that I didn't want to miss anything important and I didn't want to make up the work. I suppose that has filtered into my adult life and career as well. I hate to call in sick. I have to be pretty bad off to call in sick. In fact, I think in the last 3 or 4 years, I have only called in sick 4 times, and only one of those was a "mental health" day, as I like to call them.
I need this book. I need tips on how to fake it because I have to call in sick on Friday. Why, you say? Well, we have our big race in New Hampshire that starts at 10am on Friday morning. I can't very well be there and here at my desk at the same time. So why not take a personal day or vacation day? No vacation left... it all went to the honeymoon and the rest are allocated to Christmas, including my personal days. All that are left are the 7 pesky "sick" days.
Well, I think I should be rewarded for being a healthy individual, for coming to work every day and on time. I also think that every employee should have 4 weeks vacation, but that's another post. So, I hate lying and I am not good at it. But I have somehow justified calling in sick because I need a mental health day. Everyone needs those every once in a while. This wouldn't be such a big deal except I am driving to the mountains of New Hampshire onThursday night, and I am not sure if there is going to be cell phone/blackberry reception. This could pose a serious problem for calling in sick. It has me kind of sick to my stomach... how ironic. I don't know what my backup plan is if my cell and blackberry don't work, but I think calling from a New Hampshire number would look pretty suspicious.
Does anyone have any brilliant ideas???

my first idea is to make sure nobody from work knows about your blog. Good Luck. Thanks for hosting the FHE Monday - we had fun.

luckily, no one at work cares enough about my personal life to pay much attention to my blog.

No great ideas -- although if you have verizon, according to their commercials you should have service!! =) Good luck this weekend -- you are SO hard core. We have the Air Force marathon here this weekend, although thanks to the kiddos I'm not up for that (not sure I would be without the kids)!! Dave and I will be pushing the kids in the 5K version, though! Nowhere near as impressive as your tasking. Have fun!

Good luck this weekend! No great ideas on calling in, though. I think you can push some #s on the phone to block the # you're calling from. Should be in the front of the phone book. Have fun, and enjoy your day off!!
